Collaborative Grantmaking
The SDWF Collaboration Committee partners with other philanthropic funders to increase our impact. Separate from the annual grants process, opportunities are identified by a committee of contributing SDWF members, who pay $500 in additional dues towards the collaborative grants pool.
Environmental Justice, Community Organizing and Civic Engagement
In 2025, the SDWF Collaboration Committee partnered with the San Diego Foundation’s Environmental Initiatives to fund organizations advancing environmental justice, community organizing, and civic engagement throughout San Diego County. Five local organizations were each awarded $10,000 for a total of $50,000 granted.
Indigenous Food Sovereignty
In 2024, the SDWF Collaboration Committee partnered with the Avila Fund and San Diego Foundation to fund food sovereignty in local tribal communities. Five organizations were each awarded $15,000 for a total of $75,000 granted. Read more about this cycle here.
Afghan Refugees

Racial Justice
In 2020, the SDWF Collaboration Committee launched a grants cycle in partnership with the Latina Giving Circle to advance racial justice efforts led by women of color. Through this collaboration, three organizations were selected to receive equal grants totaling $44,000, supporting community-driven initiatives that address systemic inequities and uplift the leadership of women of color across the region.
Early Childhood Education

In partnership with Amplified Impact Partners (formerly San Diego Social Venture Partners), two organizations were each awarded $10,000—$20,000 in total—to advance innovative early childhood education initiatives and expand opportunities for young learners.
