One week until one of our favorite SDWF traditions!
Every year, we look forward to our Summer Social as a chance to catch up with members we haven’t seen over the summer, meet some of the newest faces in the SDWF community, and spend an evening together before another year gets underway.
This year, there’s another reason we’re looking forward to gathering. We’ll hear from our community partner, Southwestern College’s Child Development Center, about how they’re expanding access to affordable childcare and supporting families throughout our region.
Whether you’ve been part of SDWF for years or you’re joining us for the first time, we’d love to have you there. Bring a friend, enjoy light bites and beverages, and get to know the SDWF community.
📅 Tuesday, August 25

One of our favorite traditions each year is celebrating a member who goes above and beyond to engage with the SDWF community. Congratulations to our Fiscal Year 2026 Most Engaged Member, Kathleen Lennard!
We asked Kathleen to reflect on one of her favorite SDWF experiences, and here's what she shared:
"My favorite engagement was volunteering at Bayside Community Center. It was a wonderful way to see one of our community partners in action and helped me appreciate the relationships they've built. It was so rewarding to contribute to the work they do every day to support our most vulnerable neighbors."
Congratulations, Kathleen, and thank you for your incredible enthusiasm, generosity, and commitment to SDWF. We're so grateful to have you as part of our community!

Same Summer Social, New Location!
We've made a venue change for this year's Summer Social, but everything else stays the same.
Instead of gathering at Southwestern College, we'll now be celebrating at the San Diego Foundation in Liberty Station on Tuesday, August 25.
We're looking forward to an evening of great conversations, new connections, and kicking off another exciting year together.
We hope to see you there!

Please join us in welcoming our new Board President, Rochelle "Rocky" Hershfield!
A member of SDWF since 2016, Rocky has been an active leader and volunteer across the organization. She has served on numerous committees, including the Discovery, Inquiry & Guidelines (DIG) Committee and the Fellowship Committee, where she has mentored Fellows and helped research future grants topics. Her dedication to learning, collaboration, and community has made a lasting impact on SDWF.
When asked about her SDWF journey, here's what Rocky had to say:
"Being a part of this organization has opened my eyes and expanded my understanding of what it means to work on a team of like-minded, smart women who want to improve their community and help others. I knew nothing about collective philanthropy before I came to SDWF. To me, caring and compassion were writing checks at the end of the year to nonprofit organizations I believed in. Important, yes, but not the whole picture. I've learned so much being in SDWF, and I appreciate all the membership does collectively and what each member does individually."
As we begin a new fiscal year, we're excited for all that's ahead under Rocky's leadership. We're grateful to have such a thoughtful, dedicated leader guiding SDWF into this next chapter, and we look forward to another year of learning, connection, and collective impact together.
