Equity Statement

2025 SDWF Equity Statement

The San Diego Women’s Foundation was founded in the year 2000 with a vision of creating space for women to grow in their philanthropic leadership and to support critical work of nonprofit organizations in our community.

Over the past several years, we have been listening to under-resourced communities and leaders in diversity and inclusion about how we can advance equity in our organization and community. With the help of SDWF’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and support of the Board of Directors, we have committed to the following:

  1. SDWF leaders and staff will work to build a more inclusive organization that is representative of the diversity of our region.
  2. We continue our commitment to learning about the intersections of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, disability status, and other forms of identity.
  3. We will adopt an equity lens in our grantmaking to prioritize ways our funding can impact systemic inequalities in our region.
  4. Acknowledge power imbalance and work to address (in SDWF and broader philanthropic sector) — pull language from TBP best practices?

The SDWF Board launched the DEI Committee with an ongoing commitment to examine SDWF policies and practices and provide SDWF committees with tools to enable the changes necessary to become a more diverse and inclusive organization.

We acknowledge that this is a living commitment that will change and adapt as we learn more about our role in this work.

Please join us in our mission.

Together, we will make a difference.
