DESCRIPTION:In June 2025\, SDWF will award unrestricted funding to nonprofit organizations working to prevent and address senior isolation and loneliness by fostering ongoing or increased social and community connections\, particularly for those most acutely impacted—low-income individuals\, those from under-resourced communities\, the homebound\, and individuals with disabilities. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, January 22nd\, to hear from Amy Abrams\, Chief Community Health Officer at Grossmont Healthcare District\, and Israel Hernandez\, Associate State Director – Advocacy at AARP California\, as they discuss the critical issue of senior isolation and loneliness and explore strategies to address this growing concern. \nPlease note: Registration is required in advance to receive the Zoom link. \nAbout our Speakers: \nAmy Abrams holds a joint Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health from San Diego State University. She started her career in aging life care management\, supporting individuals with chronic conditions and their caregivers. For seven years\, Amy led education and community outreach programs at Alzheimer’s San Diego \nIsrael Hernandez is the Associate Director for Advocacy and Community Engagement at AARP San Diego. A former Marine Intelligence Specialist\, he holds a BS in Health Communication from SDSU and an MA in Psychology & Human Behavior from National University. Israel has managed homes for adults with developmental disabilities and mental illness and led the Orange County Family Housing Agency. \n

DESCRIPTION:On this night\, we will honor the impact of our Community Partners and award over $200\,000 in new support to organizations providing mental health intervention services for youth aged 12-14 in San Diego County. \nKeynote Speaker: Dr. Ben Maxwell is a passionate advocate for positive youth development. He has traveled the globe to set up mobile health clinics in Guatemala\, lived in India to work in orphanages\, and taught child psychiatry in Ethiopia. During his formative years of practicing\, he learned about life\, kids\, and the human experience. These lessons continue to kindle his empathy and curiosity. Currently\, he serves as the Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Rady Children\’s Hospital and UC San Diego. \nALL are welcome at this inspirational evening! \n5:00 – 5:45: Hosted cocktail hour \n5:45 – 7:00: Speaking program and grant awards \nFAQs \nWhat are my transportation/parking options? \nPaid parking is available in the West Parking Structure ($2.50 per hour). SUMMARY:SDWF x Indigenous Regeneration & Climate Science Alliance
DESCRIPTION:Join SDWF for an evening of light bites and drinks at Paradise Tribal Farm\, highlighting two of our current Collaboration grantees: Indigenous Regeneration and Climate Science Alliance. Attendees will learn about regenerative agriculture\, local food sovereignty projects\, and the collaborative impact of these organizations. \nIndigenous Regeneration brings hope to Native communities with programming that focuses on traditional and contemporary food cultivation\, environmental awareness and stewardship\, traditional plant education and integration\, and much more\, all designed from an Indigenous view\, overseen by elders\, and aligned with holistic practices for future economic growth on San Diego reservations. \nClimate Science Alliance’s Tribal Working Group is a climate collaboration for the lands and cultures of southern California’s Tribes. Their Small Grants Program supports projects that focus on advancing Indigenous climate resilience\, adaptation\, and/or environmental health for the collective community\, including food sovereignty and its interconnectedness to culture and environment.
