The number of San Diego County residents experiencing homelessness has risen steadily in the last decade. The coronavirus pandemic exacerbated the situation. As a result, first-time homelessness in San Diego doubled in 2020.
What’s often not discussed is that a significant portion of the region’s homeless population are older adults. In 2020, one out of every four unsheltered San Diego County residents were adults age 55 and over. Among San Diego’s unsheltered seniors, 88% became homeless in San Diego and 43% are experiencing homelessness for the first time in their lives.
Join us on Wednesday, May 18 as we partner with SDWF grant recipient, Serving Seniors, to learn more about their efforts to end senior homelessness in San Diego County.
All are welcome. Must register in advance to attend – Zoom details will be sent closer to the event date.
